5 years after Apollo 11 landed humans on the moon, in 1974, The Banana Leaf Apolo was born. For Mr Chellappan, the unassuming founder of the restaurant, the spaceflight saga had been awe-inspiring human achievement that he christened the restaurant “The Banana Leaf Apolo.” He had hoped that his humble venture would take-off like the rocket that propelled Apollo 11 mission!

Serving food on a fresh and clean banana leaf has its roots in India. He envisioned this to be his unique selling point for the restaurant and so the ingenious name was born: The Banana Leaf Apolo.
